Hello all. I am Maura Cassidy Burke. I have been involved with the Journal of Trial and Error since 2019, and helped found the Center of Trial and Error. In my years with COTE, I have served as the Editor-in-Chief, and now serve as a Board Member on the supervisory board of our stichting. My work at COTE has always been driven by the belief that we all incur a moral responsibility to exercise our agency in the pursuit of a more intentionally crafted world, and one way in which I realize this obligation is through the reshaping of the academic enterprise. I believe deeply that there is a fundamental misalignment between existent incentive structures within academia, and it is my goal to remedy this mistatch through my work at COTE. 

Outside of COTE, I have been working towards my PhD in the philosophy of science for the past 5 years and will be defending my dissertation in 2026. I am a yoga teacher, pilates instructor, long distance cycler, expat, writer, and have recently gotten really into fermentation. I love life and I take seriously how lucky I am to be a part of the very small subset of things in the world that enjoy conscious reflection and witnessing.
